company based in Moshi, at the foothills of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro.
Our company was founded with a deep passion for Tanzania’s natural beauty,

Our Founder
Abraham John Mkonyi
Sommet Adventure & Safaris is proudly led by Abraham John Mkonyi, who was
born and raised in Marangu, a village located near the headquarters of
Kilimanjaro National Park.
Growing up at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro inspired Abraham’s deep love for
the mountain and the surrounding natural environment. After completing
secondary school, he pursued studies at a Tourism College, where he developed
the professional skills that would shape his career in the tourism industry.
Abraham began working as a mountain guide and has successfully climbed
Mount Kilimanjaro more than 300 times over the past 16 years. Through his
experience, dedication, and leadership, he became highly respected within the
Kilimanjaro guiding community.Today, Abraham manages the operations and logistics for Sommet Adventure &
Safaris while continuing to guide climbers on Kilimanjaro. His firsthand
experience ensures that every expedition is safe, well-organized, and
unforgettable.
Notable Climbers Guided by Abraham
During his guiding career, Abraham has had the honor of assisting several
notable climbers and record holders on Mount Kilimanjaro, including:
• Karl Egloff – a world-renowned athlete who set the record for the fastest
combined ascent and descent of Mount Kilimanjaro on 13 August 2014,
completing the challenge in 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 24 seconds.
• Anne Lorimor – a great-grandmother from Arizona, USA, who became the
oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of 89
years and 37 days on 18 July 2019.
These experiences reflect Abraham’s professionalism and his ability to guide
climbers of all ages and abilities to the summit.
